When you live abroad food is one of the best ways to take you back to your homeland. I am lucky enough to come from a country where diversity is to be found everywhere, especially in food. One of my pleasures in life has always been cooking. Since I moved to Vienna I began to experiment with several traditional Mexican recipes, although I always try to make them my "own" by adding something unexpected.

This recipe takes me back to my little town in Playa del Carmen. Sea food, a fine taste of spicy salsa verde, colorful pico de gallo and fresh made tortillas.

  • Limette

  • Maismehl
    300 g Maismehl
  • Wasser
    300 ml Wasser
  • Tomate
    1 Stk Tomate
  • Koriander, frisch
    10 g Koriander, frisch
  • Zwiebel
    1 Stk Zwiebel, gelb
  • Chilischote
    1 Stk Chilischote
  • Sonnenblumenöl
    1 EL Sonnenblumenöl
  • Avocado
    1 Stk Avocado

Kochschritte

    Schritt 1/6

    Marinate the shrimps with garlic powder, paprika, pepper, pinch of salt and lime juice.

    Add the shrimps to a hot pan with some olive oil over medium heat and cook them for about 5-8 minutes, flipping occasionally until they are well cooked.

    In a large bowl add around 300 grams of cornflour, a pinch of salt and then the same amount of warm water. Knead until you have a firm dough. It is really important that it doesn’t stick to your hands. Let it rest for about 15 min and after this time start making little balls.

    In another pan add some oil, a piece of onion, koriander and a chili. Once they are slightly cook add them to a mixer. Squeeze a lime, add an avocado, salt to your taste and your salsa verde is ready.

    This is my favorite step: If you have a tortilla presser start to press the dough balls until you get a nicely tortilla shape. Put them in a hot pan and turn them constantly until they are well cooked.

    Chop the tomato, koriander and onion. The key it’s to chop the ingredients very finely and to use ripe red tomatoes. Add lime juice, salt and let them marinate.

    Start serving your tacos de camarón with pico de gallo, salsa verde and don’t forget to add more lime cause in Mexico salsa and lime it’s never enough.
